Can somebody answer the following: the cost in $$$ of a mug of beer, pitcher of beer, a descent meal, descent hotel room, and where NOT to go while in Riga?

It very depends on what kind of beer you prefer. Since I would recommend "Bauskas Special" or "Bauskas Lite", it's about 1 EUR per 0,5 l bottle in shops.

In restaurants (like "Lido") the 0,5 l mug of beer is about 2-3 EUR.

You may check Palete Restaurant food prices, they are approx. the same in all restaurants. If you will eat in Lido, it could cost about 5-10 EUR per dinner, depends on what dishes you choose.

I mentioned all that incl. hotel information in Hotel Reval Latvia thread.

There are also many other hotels available, it would be good to know the price you could allow, or what do you call "descent", before giving any further advices.

Where not to go in Riga - you may check my answers in Getting to Riga thread.

I guess felix asked about flats, not hotel rooms

If so, you need to take a look at the advertisement boards or newspapers in Riga. Most large to mention online are ss.lv and reklama.lv but unfortunately they are in Latvian/Russian only. I guess accommodation offered for foreigners may come from the other advertisement sources, but the prices will be much higher there.

Good luck

When you ask for the hotel, call your conditions and the allowed price guys.

There are basic rooms and lux class rooms, single-double-twin-triple... rooms, below 20 EUR/night and above, so there is quite large choice.

How much is it a beer or a regular drink in Riga?

It depends where you buy it... in bars/cafees, beer is about 1-2 Lats (i.e. 1,50 - 3 EUR), in shops it starts from 0,60 EUR per 0,5 L.

Regular drink... I'm not sure what you even mean by this

It could be about 2,5-3 Lats, i.e. 3,5-4 EUR (per 50 cl).
