Riga girls: my impression

As I said in a previous post, I visited Riga twice, one on a holiday, and once on a work trip.

Well, as many others say I have to agree that there are many beautiful girls and some were giving me smiles while walking around the city. At a club, forgot its name, I was minding my own business when a girl came over, planted a kiss on my lips and left...can I complain?

Others came over to chat me up, and once a girl came to chat me up even while I was already chatting to another!

In the beginning of October I am visiting again....don't want to sleep around but will try to get into a serious relationship, hopefully, try to keep it alive through long distance for a short time, and maybe one of us will make a move to the other's country...call me a dreamer!

Dreams often come true, you know. Specially if you want them to come true.

Whatever I could say so far besides "thanks for the visit and welcome again", is you still need to be careful in Riga night clubs. Girls will not kiss you just for a case. Mostly this is related to consuming business; we already have few of discussions about it. Be careful and watch through. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice I know what you mean. I forgot the name of the place where the girls kissed me, but it was not a touristy place at all; I remember it was very near the Sculpture of the Town Musicians of Bremen. Anyway, maybe she was off duty on that day

May I ask another thing, I will arrive in Riga on Thursday night, actually it will be Friday 2am. Will there be any night-life? And what about Monday to Wednesday?

Sunday to Thursday = almost no nightlife. Many clubs are opened even only on Fridays and Saturdays.

I'm not sure how it is now, but earlier, Saturday's evening was the most visited in night clubs. This is the time when local people are having next day free, so they could party for the whole night.

I am back from Riga, and have enriched my impressions about Latvian girls.

It is possible to meet girls throughout the week in bars. They can be approached in a friendly manner, and in no way I got the impression that they are dying to find a foreigner to save them from this 'poor' country.

Unfortunately the girls I met where young for me, since I am 38. The mature ones I believe venture in more elusive places than bars during the week.

All around the city you can see beautiful girls passing by every now and then, some do give a look but I always sensed a barrier, maybe I am too shy to stop someone in the street and chat up.

Many seem to marry at a very young age, maybe it is considered a dishonour not to be married, I don't know.

Anyway, Riga's beautiful as always.

It is perfectly ok not to be married, we are not an India for god's sake's. Latvian women are not whores who marry for money, well, maybe some but all countries have their gold diggers.

Northern Europeans like to keep ot to themselves, none of that : "how are you" and empty eyed teeth smiling at everyone.

Plomb, pal... I think using "fuck" word too often may provide a negative impression even to those people who'd share your opinion, if it'd be more polite. Well, I know I must use this word too often in my own world, but this is not the case.

The person above (btw it's not known if we have to deal with a woman or a man here), obviously never lived in Latvia, but only knows this land from the "positioned" newspapers or online magazines. First of all, I must mention, almost ALL Latvian girls/women are opposed to marriage. Strange, but this philosophy lives from the USSR times.

Second. Mentioning Siberia, Soviet Union is not that fashionable at all here, for a long time. Obviously, before I came here from Belgium, I was not even introduced to this country as the part of ex-USSR. I was getting all this stinky "knowledge" right in place. If you don't know Russian language, if you don't know Latvian language, you can not read newspapers and are only up to what you see and feel.

What do I see and feel, actually? The broken land of broken people. Everybody is trying to get on his own stage, while dirty politicians are splitting it even more. I must say, for now, obviously Latvia is not the place for creative people who would like to achieve something with their own powers. Nobody will simply allow you that. This little mass is too powerful in its stupidity. For those foreigners coming in, including Chinese, Latvia is just a borders jump to EU. That's all.

I will skip any comments about "independence" - Latvia has actually exchanged its USSR status being to EU and NATO. I was running from EU as the political monster eating personality. I was thinking, a little country of nothing, fresh air and a bit of free squares, is the ideal solution. How wrong I was!..

But fortunately or not, I have found my woman passion here, we have a little child, daughter... and you know what. I am not going to share my powers with this country anymore. I am the Citizen of Earth. We would like to move to some other 3rd World Country, which is not touched by the EU extremism. EU, actually, is a repeat of USSR, but only from the other side. Now take a look at Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece... all these countries are under massive pressing now, the pressing comes from EU. It's same pressing as Baltic countries were experiencing in USSR times.

I think, mentioning Siberia tragedy is also a provocation, because Russians lost from Stalin repressive methods much more than other people. Russian nation has lost in itself, Russia is going to crash, it's obvious for me.

Just to remind - we are on this forum to share our opinions, impressions, and ask questions. If you think it is "Kremlin" propaganda, you are definitely wrong. This forum was created by the few of people including me to support truly independant opinions. That means, saying "keep your opinion to yourself" sounds like a very rude, ungrounded opinion on itself. This place is not for opinions like this. Everyone is free to share, but not letting other people change their opinions just because they look different to you. So I can understand quite a rude and negative reaction from the admin of this site, who keeps it for a long time and deserves a lot.

I don't know why are you concerned about where i am writing from, people can travel, right, can study or work other places but can still keep their loyalties.

I admit I overreacted, I just got very upset reading some of the posts with very negative message about Latvia and Latvians.

I am a Latvian female and i live in U.S. at time being and I have lived in other places in the world. I see Latvia in my future, I would love to go back, we will see how my carrier works out.

You saw how me and Plomp got upset with each other, we might be rational people otherwise but when it comes to Latvian politics, we go crazy. I can tell you what is my problem with Russians in Latvia: In spite of living there, they have zero respect for the country and it's citizens. Not all of them - i know - generalizing is not good.

My only question is - if voting is so important, why don't they learn Latvian language and history and become a Latvian citizens? Integrate, forget about Russia and the old days (that were "better").. Respect the place you live in, where born and are going to die in. Not going to do that? Stop bitching and move! Go to Russia. P.S. For you as an American, it would be nice to read books by Gene Sharp. Especially, I recommend "From Dictatorship to Democracy" and "Civilian-Based Defense". The last one was used by the Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian governments during their separation from the Soviet Union in 1991. Lithuanian Defence Minister Audrius Butkevicius declared at the time, "I would rather have this book than the nuclear bomb". [Wiki]
