Restaurants and local dishes

Hello everyone,

I will spend a week in latvia next month, landing to riga and then around for a quick visit.
Don't really care about girls, have already one.
I would like to know a bit more about latvian cuisine and if you know some, i would like to put down on paper a few places where i can have a good, local and not too expensive latvian dish. Love the countryside as much as i do the seaside, really hate crowdy, posh and touristic places.
If you know any restaurant, in riga, in the nearby, or anywhere in latvia, i would be very grateful to hear your advice.
Please recommend me also some dishes i cannot miss. Latvian dishes only (don't mind if they have swedish or russian influences) and drinks as well, not too alcoholic..

You might be about Lido.

It provides 100% Latvian traditional cuisine for very fair prices.

There are few Lidos in the center of Riga and the bigger one is in the Kengarags district of Riga. Almost every meal you'll find there, will be traditional.

May be it looks so on pictures, but in reality, it's very different. It's not about fast food, not about hamburgers and cola, it's purely about traditional Latvian meals (+beers and wines) and there is self-reception inside, you pay only on cashbox after you collect all meals you want on the plate.

Lido is the leading Latvian cuisine restaurant in Riga. Most likely you won't find any other popular place like this. All other restaurants are about non-traditional food. May be you may go inside small caffees and order some dishes there, but they won't be purely Latvian.

One last question, how much is the price for a meal at Lido and how much is the average price for a good meal in a restaurant (not the most expensive, not even the cheapest)? Three-course meal with a bottle of wine.

You may check up Palete restaurant prices; they appear to be just 2 years old, so nowadays they are approximately the same in all restaurants.

Depending on your choice, you can spend in Lido from 2 up to 5 Lats for a middle three-course dinner. Up to 10 Lats would mean you can't eat and drink anymore after that That's the cost of just two little meals in any restaurant in Old Riga.

This seems to be an old topic, but I'll just throw in my opinion: if you are travelling around (out of Riga) you'll find nice and typical places along the main roads. Just not a lot. Otherwise Ligo is the fast-food way to go.
