When you use a digital camera for taking your amazing pictures, it creates abnormally big files by default. These files may take from 1 up to 5 Mb in size, and such size is not suitable for uploading via web. First of all, it may take huge time for you to upload them, and while you upload, you will take our resources to handle these files. Second, not everybody is able to download few megabytes files from the server quickly.
The same rules apply for any profile's photo album.
We are trying to keep the right balance, and for our
Photo forum, or for your Profile, it is allowed to upload JPEG files only with the maximum size of 250 Kb each. It is more than enough for a good quality picture where the details are recognizable.
That's why, before uploading any picture, you must make sure all pictures you are going to upload, are not exceeding this limit. If some picture takes a larger size, you will need to
resize it.
For resizing the pictures we recommend a free program called "
IrfanView", one of the most popular picture viewers on Earth for Windows.
Download and install it, then run it and open the file you would like to resize (click "O" on the keyboard or click
File -> Open under menu).
Then click
Ctrl+R on your keyboard, or
Image -> Resize/Resample from the top menu.
Make sure "
Preserve Aspect Ratio" check box is ON.
Set "
Select new size" radio button which should be marked by default, and in "
Width" field, specify: 760. It's the static size which should fit almost any browser and window, and it should fit the limited file size. "
Height" field's value should be changed automatically.
Click OK and you see the picture has changed its dimensions. In the bottom STATUS BAR, you should see its new dimensions and the proposed size in Kilobytes (actually the one we set under limit). If this size is less than 250 Kb, save the picture as described below. If it's more than 250 Kb, try to decrease the dimensions again.
Saving the picture: click "S" on your keyboard, or
File -> Save As. Specify folder and file name for the resized picture, and click OK. Later, specify this modified picture for uploading at out forums.
You may use other picture editor as well to give it a proper file size.
