I'm not sure Latvia is the best place for it, specially as we've had the referendum about Russian as the 2nd official in Latvia, and it failed. 75% of voters were against; but that's mostly because of the current Latvian national politics. Not everyone living in Latvia has rights to vote; about 30% do not have it. Mostly those 30% are Russian-speaking persons.

You can surely to come to Latvia to study Latvian and Russian; but truly, it you want to study Russian only, you may better visit Russia

It depends on how much you need, and how much spend currently. I think you can survive in Latvia for about EUR 500.

Oh yes. There will be lots of fun, specially if you are coming from the other continent. It could be all new for you. I've arrived here from Belgium and sometimes I'm back to my land; but for the first time, I was truly impressed by Riga, the capital of Latvia. It has a spirit.

First of all, sorry for my english, it's not a perfect one. My name is Gianfranco, i'm from Lima, Peru. I work as a journalist, I always been curious about new cultures (the so called "culture shock") and overseas experiences. Anyway, i'm making some plans for next year and i'm very interesting in travelling to Riga, Latvia because, even if it sounds odd, I know so little about this country that I need to go a discover. I've been searching on the internet some things and I realize it's a place I'd should visit. Nevertheless, it's not an easy thing to do. I don't know yet if a require a visa or how much do I need to stay there some time, I don't even know if I can make it just with my spanglish in a country where everybody speaks russian and latvian (¿am I right?). Actually, I was planning to go there and study russian for a while. I'd like to know how much is the cost of living in Latvia: how much do you earn in a minimun wage, how easy is to get a job for spanish/english speakers, how much would it cost to rent a flat, study russian, having some fun, etc etc. I'm just need the basic to be fine, I mean, cheap places.
